UVic quiet about ‘community member’ after post celebrating Charlie Kirk’s death taken down

UVic says it is aware that a “community member” shared a controversial social media post that celebrated the violent death of American conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot on Wednesday while discussing gun control on a university campus in Utah.

"FAFO (f*ck around, find out), Charlie. Good RIDDANCE! The “woke radical left” finally sent someone with good aim,” read the post on X, formerly Twitter, and it has since been taken down.

In an email to Capital Daily, UVic said it does not condone violence of any kind.

“The views expressed in this post do not align with the university’s values of equity, inclusion, and respect, and this individual does not speak on behalf of the university.”

The email went on to say the university takes seriously any allegations of policy violations, including its discrimination and harassment policy.

“We expect all members of our community to adhere to these policies and will respond to allegations accordingly.”

However, it did not disclose whether the “UVic community member” had been or would be disciplined.

“Out of respect for the privacy of all involved, the university will not comment further on this issue,” a follow-up email read.

Across North America, university faculty members—including a University of Toronto professor—have been fired or suspended for their commentary on Kirk’s death.

On Thursday, a report surfaced that a former Legal Aid BC worker from Victoria had posted a video celebrating the 31-year-old influencer’s assassination.

“Charlie Kirk got shot, and he’s dead. Hahahaha,” the brief clip, which has since been turned private, began.

Legal Aid BC said it is aware of a recently circulated online video featuring a former employee.

“The video contains statements and views that are deeply offensive and do not align with the core values, principles, or mission of our organization,” Legal Aid BC said in a statement posted to its website.
