Lee's Donuts to sweeten up the BroadView Block

The yum factor is about to soar downtown with news that the popular Vancouver bakery is setting up a location in the capital.
“The new shop is expected to open by the end of the year, bringing Lee’s handmade donuts and its iconic Honey Dip to Victoria for the first time,” the company said in a release.
As reported first in Tasting Victoria, Lee’s Donuts will be filling a hole in the BroadView Block—the soon-to-be renovated corner of Broad and View, which is about to up its food game.
At least two other new-to-Victoria food and drink shops are also moving in: Ayoub’s Dried Fruits & Nuts and Kyoto Garden, and one—Meat & Bread—is making a comeback.
Lee’s Donuts has been a sugary fix fixture for many Vancouverites for four and a half decades—handmade donuts from a mom-and-pop shop that opened on Granville Island in 1979.
Alan and Betty Lee built a reputation for making quality, fresh donuts the traditional way—“no shortcuts, no compromises,” it says on their website.
It’s now a franchise chain, run by entrepreneurs from Vancouver, and the donuts are still made by hand.
It’s far too early for reservations, but the renovations are coming along at the Japanese teahouse Kyoto Garden.
“Inspired by the timeless beauty of Kyoto, every detail is being built with patience and intention,” the restaurant's social media shared.
Making a return to Victoria—they had a location on Yates from 2014 to 2017—is the specialty sandwich shop Meat & Bread, which was founded in Gastown and has locations in Vancouver, Calgary and Austin, Tex.
Joining them will be Ayoub’s Dried Fruits & Nuts—a family business selling hand-roasted nuts and exotic dried fruits online and at multiple locations in the Vancouver area.
